RE: Digest version?

I agree with Ron, I would like a daily digest of new posts for that day sent to my email. I can get this from Escapees and other sites>
Is there any way to receive a "Digest" version instead of the steady stream of e-mails? This is too time consuming.

RE: banks won't finance full timers

The proceeds from the sale of the house will be used to pay off the loans but keep it open in case we have unexpected expenses.
I could be profoundly wrong, but that sounds like it could lead to legal trouble if the bank found out you no longer owned the home that the equity line of credit was based on. AFAIK, all home equity loans are secured by the home.
When you pay everything off using the proceeds from your home sale, your credit report should look pretty good. That might be a good time to get a low rate credit card with a high limit and favorable terms. Keep it active but paid down to maintain the limits and terms.
Just my opinion, you should do your own research on it.
Good point, I will check on that.

RE: choosing state of residency

Biggest issue for my DW and I was health insurance. I had picked SD because slightly cheaper than TX and I thought I could get my retiree health insurance there; turned out I could get catastrophic coverage only and domiciling in Livingston TX (home of Escapees) I could get regular coverage. Figuring in health insurance TX much cheaper than SD for us.
YMMV

RE: banks won't finance full timers

March 1st is my retirement date so my DW and I just signed up for a Home Equity Line of Credit that can remain open for 10 years. We will use that for expenses while we are fixing up the house and for the RV and TV purchase if we decide to do that before the house sells. The proceeds from the sale of the house will be used to pay off the loans but keep it open in case we have unexpected expenses.

Highest wind gusts

What are the highest wind gusts that you have comfortably lived thru? As previously posted my DW has only one reservation about full-timing and that is high winds, thunderstorms, etc.
We are currently in Clearwater Beach FL on our second to last fly and drive vacation. This is the time of the year we would have been in this area if we were full-timing and a huge cold front with 30 mph gusts blew in last night. Temperatures don't bother us much but the wind is a concern for my DW.

RE: How many of us are waiting for the SOLD sign?

How about a thread for how many of us are waiting for the FOR SALE sign :) I retire in January and then have 7 months to a year to get the house ready for the FOR SALE sign!
I'd get that For Sale Sign up now!! :W
Who knows what's going to happen to this market. I foolishly
'waited' to list mine and missed the top end of the curve,
and sadly I am sitting on the down curve of it now.:(
Sign will go up as soon as possible but believe me it is not showable now :)

Not sure of which forum to post

As you can see from our signature we have about one more year in our home. I know we will want a satellite dish for our 5er but when do we make that transition? Do we start now and get at least one of the DVRs because there are some good deals? Or do we just wait until we are in the 5er?
Any tips or suggestions will be welcome!
As I said in the subject not sure which forum and I did do a brief search but the results dealt more with equipment and providers.

My wife's Christmas gift to me

As you can see from the signature our planned retirement was November 2008 and full-timing in 2009 based on planning that is updated every year in December. A couple of days my wife just said, "why don't you just retire now"? Well the numbers look good now and like my wife also said, "we can make it work"! God I love this woman!!
So our retirement day is now 1/22/08 and if all goes well (e.g., the house selling) we will be full-timing in 2008.
Now to update my signature :)

Bedroom A/C; should it be ducted?

I have noticed that some bedroom a/c units hook into the ductwork and some do not. Is this a big deal or no to full-timers?

RE: Showing on house, well, almost

I was a Realtor in my past life
Dawndelion,
Does a larger commission, say 10% instead of 7%, work to the Seller's advantage? I have heard that the more money attracts more viewings which works in your favor.

RE: Wanting to Buy a Fifth wheel

When my DW and I started out we thought we would spend $50K max and we in no way thought we could afford a new 5er, plus we did not want to drive it off the lot and lose a lot of value. We got a shock when we visited a Carriage dealer and looked at one year old model and was told that we could get a new one in that price range, it was then that the 20-25% markup really hit home and we are now are open to the possibility of a new 5er.
I would recommend finding a good full-time manufacturer and then go to the low end of the product line and you just might be able to buy new. For Carriage that would be Cameo and for Nuwa that would be Hitchhiker and maybe even the mid-range Discover America (DA). Take 25% off and that is about what a "good" dealer will offer you. Our favorite floorplans are the Cameo F35SB3 and the DA 339RSB.
For our other two favorite full-time manufacturers, Doubletree and Travel Supreme, we will probably have to buy used to keep under our spending limit.
Hope this helps,

Bill Moeller's "Guide to Full-time RVng" has helped me as I plan for full-timing but it has a lot of hints anybody could use.

RE: Hitchhiker DA or Doubletree select suites

I can't tell you about the double tree. There is a dealer RV show in my area this week and if I see a Double tree I wil re-post. The DA is a quality unit from NUWA and I purchased one and I am waiting for delivery. I can tell you with out a doubt that I am very impressed with the workmanship of the NUWA. We have the 329 RSB and they thought if everything. I will probably regret not buying the 348 RSB, but if we do maybe in a couple of years we can trade it in. By the way, the resale value here is also fantastic.
I really like the Hitchhiker 339RSB, I would just replace the bunks with the option for another closet. My three favorites are this one, the Carriage Cameo F35SB3, and one from DoubleTree Select Suites with an enclosed bath. The advantage of the Cameo is the residential type door entrance to the bedroom suite versus the accordion door on rails.

RE: AARP

I don't like their politics and I don't know how the allow you to let them know that. It seems like there is a small group who run the show and they have their own agenda.
Me neither and this thread has convinced me I do not need 'em, do not want them :)
I have the renewal that I will send back with my reason for nor renewing. Not much but I will do my part to boycott them.

Without politics or any discussion on insurance since we have that covered elsewhere are there any benefits to AARP membership for full-timers; campground discounts, etc.?
